Winter Solstic Sonnet
for Bernadette Mayer
by Ryan Gallagher
regarding the recent death of
life or light or lady macbeth eating
udon noodles dipped in electric
red acrylic cadmium colors
and all other platforms or
flat squares or flip formal
middle fingers at a podium
and say fuck formalism I’d
rather be square—
I’d rather
be a square a yellow
square with a silver beer can
a silver beer can I flip back back
back back back and it’s gone
